Stamped concrete and pavers can both make a patio, walk or pool deck look like stone. They cost about the same in many cases, and they age in very different ways. We pour stamped concrete and we do not lay pavers, so keep that in mind as you read. We have tried to give pavers a fair shake. Questions about your project? Call (817) 207-5579.
Cost
Stamped concrete in the Fort Worth area runs about $12 to $20 per square foot installed. National cost guides put concrete pavers around $8 to $15 per square foot, brick pavers around $10 to $20, and natural stone from $15 to $50. Simple stamped work and mid-range concrete pavers often land close together. Stamped concrete gets pricier with more colors and hand detail, and pavers get pricier with natural stone, curves and lots of cuts.

How each handles Fort Worth ground
A stamped slab is one solid piece with steel in it. When the clay underneath moves, the slab moves as a unit, and the stress comes out as a crack. Good joints keep most cracks in the pattern's grout lines.
Pavers sit on a bed of sand over a compacted gravel base. Each paver can move a little on its own, so the surface flexes instead of cracking. Over time, individual pavers can sink, rock or creep apart, especially at the edges if the edge restraint fails.
Call and we will bring patterns and colors to your house.
Upkeep
- Stamped concrete: wash it and reseal it every few years to keep the color rich and stains out
- Pavers: reseal every few years too, and top up the joint sand as rain and washing carry it out
- Weeds and ants: paver joints give both a place to settle in, while a slab only has its control joints
- Cleaning and sealing costs: national guides put it near $1.50 per square foot for concrete and about $2 for pavers
Repairs
This is where pavers win. A cracked or stained paver can be pulled and swapped, and a sunken area can be lifted, re-leveled and relaid with the same pavers. A cracked stamped slab can be sealed, and a broken section can be cut out and poured again, but the new section will not match the old color and pattern perfectly.
Heat, comfort and safety
Color matters more than material when it comes to heat. A light stamped slab and a light paver both stay cooler than dark ones in an August afternoon. Sealed stamped concrete can be slippery when wet, so we add grit to the sealer around pools and on steps. Pavers have natural grip from their joints, but a paver that sinks or tips can become a trip hazard.
Which to choose
Pick stamped concrete if you want a smooth, continuous surface, fewer joints for weeds, a driveway that carries cars on a single slab, or a pool deck with a wood plank or slate look. Pick pavers if you want the easiest repairs, plan to dig under the area later for utilities, or love the look of real brick or stone. Either one needs a well-compacted base on Fort Worth soil.

Questions about Stamped concrete vs pavers in Fort Worth
- Which lasts longer, stamped concrete or pavers?
- Both can last decades with care. Stamped concrete needs resealing to keep its color. Pavers need joint sand and occasional re-leveling.
- Can a stamped concrete driveway hold cars?
- Yes. We pour stamped driveways at the same thickness and steel as plain ones. The sealer wears faster where tires turn.
- Are pavers better around a pool?
- Both work. Pavers drain through their joints and are easy to repair. Stamped concrete gives a smoother surface with fewer gaps. Pick a light color either way.
