Concrete Slabs for Shops, Garages and RVs

We pour slabs for metal shops, detached garages, carports, storage buildings, RV and boat pads, and room additions around Fort Worth and Tarrant County. A slab that holds up a building has to be flat, square and strong where the walls sit. Call (817) 207-5579 and tell us what is going on the slab, and we will come out to measure and check the ground.

Slabs we pour

Slab prices, Fort Worth area
JobTypical range
4 inch slab with rebar, per sq ft$6 to $10
6 inch slab for RVs and heavy trucks, per sq ft$8 to $13
30 by 40 foot shop slab, 4 inch$7,200 to $12,000
12 by 40 foot RV pad, 6 inch$3,850 to $6,250
Small shed or equipment padAbout $1,500 minimum

Typical ranges, not quotes. Thickened edges, dirt work on a sloped lot and a long reach for the truck can raise the price.

Thickness, steel and anchor bolts

Four inches with rebar works for a car garage or a shed. An RV, a loaded trailer or a lift in a shop needs 6 inches or more, plus steel that matches the load. Under the walls we dig the edges deeper so the slab has a footing built into it.

For a metal building, the anchor bolts have to land exactly where the building company's drawings say. We set them in a template before the pour and check them again while the concrete is still wet. Bring us the building plans and we will lay the bolts out from them.

Room additions are a different job. Most of them in this area sit on a foundation an engineer designs for the soil on that lot, often with deeper beams or post-tensioned cables. We pour to that plan, and the city inspects it before the concrete goes in.

Permits for buildings on a new slab

In Fort Worth, sheds, detached garages, carports and other accessory structures all need a building permit, and zoning rules set where they can sit and how big they can be. The suburbs have their own rules. Haltom City, for one, asks for a flatwork permit and a site plan on any slab bigger than 10 by 10 feet. We will tell you what your city wants at the estimate.

To price a pad yourself, open the concrete cost calculator, pick the slab option and choose 6 inches if a truck or RV will park on it.

Questions about Concrete Slabs in Fort Worth

Do I need a vapor barrier under my shop slab?
If the building will be closed in, yes. Plastic under the slab keeps ground moisture from wicking up and sweating on the floor, rusting tools and lifting floor coatings.
Can you set anchor bolts for my metal building?
Yes. Send us the anchor bolt plan from the building supplier. We set the bolts in a template so they line up with the frame.
How soon can the building go up?
Most metal building crews wait about a week before they bolt down frames, and longer before heavy equipment goes on the floor. Your building supplier may have its own number.
