Not every bad slab needs to come out. Some cracks only need sealing, some sunken panels can be cut out and repoured on their own, and some driveways really are done. We look at it, tell you which one you have, and price the repair and the replacement side by side when both make sense. Call (817) 207-5579 to set up a visit.
Repairs we do
- Crack routing and sealing: opens up the crack and fills it with a flexible sealant to keep water out of the base
- Section replacement: saw cut the broken panels, break them out and pour new concrete doweled to the good slab
- Trip hazard removal: grind down a lifted edge or replace the panel
- Sunken slabs: raise them or replace them, depending on their shape
- Step repair: rebuild broken nosings or replace steps that pulled away from the porch
- Joint resealing: fresh sealant in expansion joints that have dried out and opened up
Problem pages with more detail: cracked driveway, sunken or uneven slabs and tear-out and replacement.
| Job | Typical range |
|---|---|
| Remove and replace a broken section, per sq ft | $7 to $14 |
| Small repair visit with tear-out and new concrete | About $1,500 minimum |
| Crack routing and sealing | Priced by the linear foot |
| Trip hazard grinding | Priced per lip |
Typical ranges, not quotes. We price the repair after we see it, and we price a replacement next to it when that makes more sense.
Repair or replace
We lean toward repair when the slab is mostly sound and the damage sits in one spot. A single sunken panel at the garage, one cracked walk square or a lifted joint fits that. We lean toward replacement when the slab has broken into many pieces, when the cracks have offset up and down, or when the whole slab pitches toward the house. Patching a slab like that costs money and buys little time.
Repaired concrete never matches exactly. A replaced panel starts out lighter than the rest. If the look matters to you, we tell you at the estimate how it will appear.
Call and we will tell you whether to fix it or replace it.
Freeze damage and flaking surfaces
Fort Worth does not freeze often, but it can freeze hard. In February 2021, DFW Airport sat at or below freezing for 139 hours in a row and hit 2 below zero. Water in cracks and in a weak surface expands when it freezes, and that is when flaking and popped surfaces show up. Rock salt on young concrete makes it worse. Use sand for traction on a slab less than a year old.
Questions about Concrete Repair in Fort Worth
- Can you patch a crack so it disappears?
- No patch disappears on gray concrete. Sealant keeps water out and stops the edges from crumbling, but you will still see the line.
- Is it worth fixing a 25 year old driveway?
- If most of it is flat and solid, yes. Replacing two bad panels costs far less than a new driveway. If it is broken across the whole width in several places, put the money toward replacement.
- Do you do foundation repair?
- No. We work on flatwork: driveways, walks, patios, steps and slabs that are not holding up the house. For cracks in the house foundation, call a foundation repair company or a structural engineer.
