When an old slab is past saving, we break it out, haul it off, rebuild the base and pour new concrete in its place. Most of our replacement jobs are driveways, patios and walks that have heaved, sunk or broken into plates. Call (817) 207-5579 and we will measure the old slab and give you a price for tear-out and new concrete together.
How a tear-out goes
- Utility lines get marked before anything is broken. Texas law calls for a Texas811 ticket at least two working days before digging, and we put it in.
- We saw cut a clean line where the old concrete meets anything staying, like the garage slab, the city walk or a neighbor's driveway.
- A skid steer with a breaker or a jackhammer breaks the slab into pieces we can load.
- The broken concrete and rebar get loaded into a dump truck and hauled away.
- We dig out soft spots, add base where needed and compact it.
- Forms, steel and the new pour follow, usually within a day or two.
What makes tear-out cost more
Tear-out usually adds $1 to $4 per square foot to the new concrete price. The low end is a 4 inch slab with no steel and a straight shot for the skid steer. The high end is a thick slab packed with rebar, a backyard patio with no access for equipment, or a slab poured over an older slab that nobody took out the first time. We find that last one more often than you would think.
If you want a number before we come out, the cost calculator has a tear-out box you can check.

Do it right the second time
Whatever ruined the old slab will ruin the new one if it is still there. When the old concrete comes out we can see the base, the water damage and the roots. We fix the slope, reroute a downspout if needed, compact the base and use more steel than the original slab had. Fort Worth soil is part of the story too, and our soil guide explains why.
Questions about Tear-Out and Replacement in Fort Worth
- Do I have to be home during tear-out?
- No, as long as we can reach the work and the cars are out of the garage. Tear-out is loud for most of a day.
- What happens to the old concrete?
- We haul it off. You do not need to rent a dumpster or find a place for it.
- Can you remove concrete without pouring new?
- Yes. Some people want the patio gone for a lawn or a garden bed. We break it out, haul it off and grade the dirt so it is ready for sod or plants.
